The two real giants of the CPU
industry.
The odds are that you computer has a
CPU manufactured by one of these two companies. I’m sure you are
all familiar with the ‘Intel inside’ logo and the related
advertising campaign.
Although both of these companies will
try to persuade you that their product is the best there is really
very little to choose between them. As each releases a new, faster,
more capable processor and becomes the best it is inevitable that
their competitor will, within a few short month, release something
even better. So we have a situation where they continue to leapfrog
each other.
The ‘best CPU for you is the one that
satisfies your computing needs the best. It is this that will
dominate your choice of CPU.
This series of articles will not be
concentrating on the CPU manufacturers until we reach overclocking
where it will matter. For the most part, the series we will be
concentrating on Windows (XP to be specific).
