Windows has most of the tools you will need to clean out your temp
files. The most useful of these is the 'Disk Cleanup' utility which is
a part of the 'System Tools' suite. It will get rid of these files and
also let you know how much disk space it will release in the process.
Windows take a further precaution and will only delete temp files that have not been used for at least a week.
Note: Disk Cleanup
will permanently delete the files you select (you are given an
opportunity to select what you do and don't want to delete) and also
old System Restore point. You need to be sure that you will not
need the files you'll be deleting in the future.
If you delete files manually they will be placed into the Recycle Bin
and so can be retrieved anytime before you empty it. If you want to
delete a file permanently without it going via the Recycle Bin hold
down the [SHIFT] and press 'Delete' on your keyboard or you can
Right-click your mouse while the pointer is on the file and select
'Delete' - the file will be deleted immediately.
